The Modifero Seat Occupancy Monitoring System provides real-time, seat-by-seat passenger presence information for minibuses, buses and other passenger transport vehicles. Occupancy sensors installed in the monitored seats communicate through dedicated seat modules with a central control unit and driver display, allowing the driver to identify occupied and unoccupied passenger seats at a glance. Available for different numbers of monitored passenger seats.
The Modifero Seat Occupancy Monitoring System is designed to provide drivers and vehicle operators with clear information about passenger seat occupancy in minibuses, buses and other passenger transport vehicles.
Individual occupancy sensors installed in the monitored passenger seats detect whether each seat is occupied. This information is transmitted through the seat modules to the central control unit and displayed to the driver, providing an immediate overview of the monitored seating area.
Instead of simply indicating the total number of passengers, the system provides seat-specific occupancy information, allowing the status of individual monitored seats to be identified.
Each passenger seat included in the system is equipped with an occupancy sensor. When a passenger sits on the seat, the sensor detects the change in occupancy status and sends this information to the corresponding electronic seat module.
The seat modules communicate with the main control unit, which processes the information from the monitored seats and transfers the relevant status information to the driver's display.
This allows the driver to see which monitored passenger seats are occupied or unoccupied without relying solely on visual observation of the passenger compartment.
Passenger compartments in minibuses and buses may contain multiple seat rows, high-back seats and interior layouts where some passengers are difficult to observe directly from the driver's position.
By obtaining occupancy information directly from each monitored seat, the system provides a structured electronic overview of passenger presence throughout the vehicle.
This makes the system suitable not only for conventional minibuses and buses but also for shuttle vehicles, employee transport vehicles and other professionally operated passenger vehicles where reliable seat occupancy information is useful.
Information received from the seat sensors is presented through the driver interface, allowing the occupancy status of the monitored seating positions to be checked from the driver's area.
The system therefore provides considerably more useful information than a simple passenger counter: the driver can identify the status of individual monitored seats rather than receiving only a total passenger number.
Passenger vehicles are available with many different seating layouts and capacities. The Modifero system is therefore configured according to the actual number of passenger seats that will be electronically monitored.
Choosing the correct configuration:
Count the passenger seats that you want the system to monitor and select the corresponding number from the product options.
The driver's seat is not included. A front passenger seat should only be included if it is also intended to be monitored by the system.
Example: If your vehicle has 19 passenger seats but you require monitoring on 18 of them, select the 18 Seats configuration.
The electronic architecture is designed around distributed seat modules rather than requiring every individual sensor to be connected directly to the main control unit.
This modular arrangement allows the system to be configured for different passenger capacities while keeping the seat monitoring network organized and suitable for installation throughout the passenger compartment.
The Seat Occupancy Monitoring System is part of the modular Modifero Passenger Safety Systems platform. The same core architecture can be configured for different passenger monitoring and safety requirements.
For applications requiring additional functionality, Modifero also offers configurations for child presence detection, passenger seat belt monitoring and fleet-level passenger safety monitoring and reporting.
Where both passenger presence and seat belt use need to be monitored, the system can be configured with seat belt status detection in addition to the occupancy sensors.

Seat layouts, seat structures and electrical installations vary considerably between passenger vehicles. The required number of occupancy sensors, electronic modules and wiring components is therefore determined according to the selected number of monitored passenger seats and the installation layout of the vehicle.
